Near Nakuru, the capital of the Rift Valley Province, the same name lies Lake Nakuru National Park. Especially famous is the 188 km2 Park for its large colony of flamingos, which at times can be up to two million birds. In total there are over 400 bird species in Lake Nakuru National Park, including many water birds that inhabit the shores of the lake.
